Duns Film Club will host the Scottish premiere of BAFTA award winning director Samir Mehanovic’s new documentary “Through our Eyes” on Sunday 29th April at 4pm in the Volunteer Hall, Duns.
In “Through our Eyes”, filmed over four years, Scottish-based Samir Mehanovic- who will attend the screening – gives a fresh and personal insight into the human catastrophe of the Syrian conflict.
A Muslim refugee himself, Samir fled Bosnia in the 1990s and settled in the UK. He draws on his own experience of claiming asylum in the UK, and he travels to meet Syrian refugees in camps, on trains and in their new countries of exile, to understand the lives of families fleeing their homes.
Featuring music written and performed by refugees, the documentary is a vivid examination of the consequences of war and displacement, which western media often fail to convey. This premiere screening will be followed by a Q&A with Samir Mehanovic. Entry is free with donations to SAWA, a Lebanese grassroots charity supporting Syrian refugee children in the Bekaa valley through education, training and support.
The World Premiere of “Through our Eyes” took place at the Curzon Bertha DocHouse, London, to a sell-out audience on 10th April.
